The Martian Chronicles....
Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles reveals a science fiction world in a diary format (thus the word "chronicles") where Mars is colonized with several expeditions.

As you read The Martian Chronicles, note how Mars is colonized and compare to the colonization of America as well as any other cultures' colonizations. Also notice the beautiful, almost poetic, language Bradbury uses as he describes the various scenes.

So as you read, submit a blog entry of roughly 150-200 words discussing either the colonization or the writing techniques (word choice, tone, phrasings, etc.) that Bradbury employs.

All Quiet on the Western Front...
Note how every chapter has a special focus. The story line jumps from one idea to the next rather than relays the story in a chronological, linear manner. How does this jumping from one idea to another, a 20th century writing technique, enhance or detract from the telling of this war story? Discuss any other aspects of the novel--tone, pathos, ethos, imagery, dialogue, diction, ideas--that you find interesting.

Nickel and Dimed....
Ehrenreich's investigative reporting places her in three minimum wage jobs in different areas of the country. Note the struggles she faces, how have these experiences opened her eyes to the world of poverty, and what her argument is in the "Evaluation" chapter. Blog on any of the Reader's Guide questions at the end of the book.
