The Martian Chronicles

In Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles, A series of people from earth migrate and colonize the planet of Mars in a way similar to the American colonies. It began with small expeditions by a few select people. They often died when they came into contact with the Martians. The original explorers did spread Chicken Pox to the martians, which just like the Native Americans and the Aztec/Incas, killed off much if not almost all of the population. These Martians had elaborate societies built for centuries, which were destroyed to make way for the Eathlings' ways of life. People came in huge numbers to Mars, unlike what happened in the 1600's colonization of the Americas. Like the 1600's, the immigrants brought their customs which prevailed in Mars. Unlike the 1600's colonization of the New World, in the Martian Chronicles there was a huge atomic war going on which required all Mars inhabitants to come back to earth to help out. This left the planet of Mars nearly empty, except for a few people, and the things that the Earthlings built and left behind when they returned to Earth. In 2026, the war escalated to the point that a few families escaped Earth, which was going to be completely destroyed by war, and left to Mars, where they destroyed all the Earthly ways of life and started anew.
