Michael Tigges - The Martian Chronicles
In the Martian Chronicles, Earth attempts to colonize Mars in the late 90's. The book forms a parallel to America's colonization by the pilgrims. Man brings new diseases to the planet, very minor diseases such as chicken pox, that wipe out the entire martian race. This causes distress with some of the men, but is mostly disregarded. Racial discrimination is also brought up in the book, as the African Americans save up money to buy their own rocket to get to Mars, to be free of the segregation. However, the rich people follow and attempt to set up the old country on Mars, which solves nothing for those that are racially segregated. This lines up with how the Pilgrims colonized America; those who wanted religious freedom went to America, but once the upper classes in Europe found out about the bountiful resources, they too wanted in on the "share".
