In Barbara Ehrenreich’s book titled Nickel and Dimed, you get an inside look on how life with a $7.00 an hour wage is like. Following the trail of Ehrenreich all the casualties of a stable life seem to have more value than they possessed before. Ehrenreich was always on the lookout for a higher paying job to help her living conditions like anyone else she worked and conversed with would. Many of the people she befriended led very unstable lives that depended on other people, such as a roommate or a husband, and weren’t the happiest with diminishing benefits.
Question 12: Taking drugs tests when applying places has become a normal thing to do, but it can make people feel like they’ve been singled out as a bad person. I think that drug tests should be used when a supervisor or boss has a reason to test them, like if an employee is acting in rude, inappropriate, or unnatural ways. This would prevent starting a job being uncomfortable right away, and you wouldn’t feel as though you’re a criminal.
