In Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, she investigates the possibility of being able to survive in this country on nothing but a minimum wage paying job. This includes finding a place to live, as well as transportation to and from work. The only luxury that she has is the fact the she has a bank account to fall back on. While she is doing this investigation Ehrenreich discovers that this is very difficult and also changes the way she views low-class workers. While working these jobs she has realized how hard it is to survive on minimum wage and most people need a roommate or husband to help with the expenses. Ehrenreich discovers that the jobs are extremely stressful and require long hours, so she finds herself unable to hold two jobs because it requires to much work. She also has to quit some of her jobs because they alone are to much for her to handle. So Ehrenreich comes to the conclusion that the harder working class should be paid the most more because their entire lives are either working really hard or resting and getting ready to go back to work.
