MC from Hayley Weiner
In The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury the colonization of Mars and the colonization of America have many similarities. Both started out with expeditions to see if the land was livable and what it had to offer. As the Americans discovered this new land they described it beautifully as they found it. As well as when they Europeans discovered America they saw it as beautiful and a land of opportunity. When the first Europeans came to America they brought with them smallpox and unknowingly unleashed it upon the Natives, massively killing them. On Mars when Europeans arrived they brought with them the very manageable(to them) disease chickenpox. The chickenpox became the main killer of the Martians because, like smallpox to the Native Americans, the chickenpox had never been exposed before to these people and were deadly. Only few of the native populations had been able to survive. Also after more and more Americans colonized in Mars, like the Europeans colonizing in America, the Martians were forced out of there land that was being taken over, like the Native Americans. As well as in both cases people were using the "new land" to escape what they disliked about there original homes.
