All Quiet On The Western Front

In Erich Maria Remarque's, All Quiet On The Western Front, Remarque jumps from one main idea to the next throughout this book. This writing technique enhances the telling of this war story by giving you one main idea to think about and consider instead of giving you multiple main ideas to think about. This writing style makes everything flow much more easily which makes it easier to follow and understand where the writer may be coming from. By focusing on one main idea in one chapter, it is easier to put forth the effort to truly understand what these soldiers went through and how their life has changed because of the war.
Remarque's tone throughout the book gives a feeling of depression, hopelessness and longing. The tones that Remarque used make it easier to feel what the characters may have been feeling in different situations. As Remarque gives details of what the dead bodies and blood looked like displayed on the earth helps the reader understand the depth of what happened to these soldiers during the war. Remarque brings up the topic of which side is right and which side is wrong during this book which makes the reader make a connection to government decisions that are made today. This connection enhances the readers understanding of what may have gone through the soldiers mind's while reading All Quiet On The Western Front.
