The Martian Chronicles

In The Martian Chronicles, Ray Bradbury writes about Mars being colonized by humans. The colonization of Mars has many similarities to the colonization of America. The first example would be that the people coming to the new lands were both seeking better lives for themselves and their families. The next similarity is when the people came to the new land they unintentionally gave diseases to and killed the people that had lived on that land. The Native Americans died of small pox in the American colonization. In The Martian Chronicles, the martians died of chicken pox. Neither of the races were able to survive the sicknesses because they had not been exposed to them before, and their immune system could not fight them off fast enough. In the book there were lots of expeditions to Mars. Although the first few "failed" the earth people kept trying. This is similar to when we came to America and there were all kinds of people of different races and backgrounds. Some of these people wanted to take over and make a new civilization all their own, others were open to new ideas and wanted to leave it how it was and just enjoy the beauty and simplicity of the natural lands and nature.
