MC from Sarah Sheldon

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury tells a story about an alternate version of Earth where they are on the verge of atomic world war and discrimination is still very much apart of the American South and they are just getting rights in the year 2003 in the story. Martians exist and their area four expeditions to Mars so Americans can colonize it, and each one fails and are killed except for the Fourth Expedition. Many Martians are dead because of chicken pox and by the time much of Mars is colonized by the Americans and Fourth Expedition, there are only 100-150 of them left. The reasons they came to Mars can be compared to those of when people went to the New World that became America: to escape oppression, control, and live how they want to. At the end, Bradbury describes a family who came to Mars and were going to live there right before the war ended. The kids want to see a Martian and the father takes them to a river and points down and shows them Martians: them. Bradbury's story of an alternate universe shows hoe the negative side of humanity can make an enormous impact from government to art and literature.
