The Martian Chronicles

In Ray Bradbury's novel, The Martian Chronicles, the colonization of Mars by humans from earth is described. The colonizations of Mars is easily comparable to the colonization of America. In order to begin colonizing Mars, humans from Earth held many expeditions to explore the land and decide whether it was useful. When the Europeans colonized the Americas as well, they sent out a few ships at a time, to plan and survey the land. In both places, once the plans were made, humans came to Mars and Europeans came to the Americas. Both intruders brought with them deadly diseases that wiped out the current natives. The humans brought the chicken pox to the Martians and the Europeans brought new diseases that wiped out the natives. The humans colonizing Mars, as well as the Europeans colonizing the Americas, brought with them new ideas and customs. They changed their land to their liking and ruined what the previous owners had created. The humans destroyed some of the lands that the Martians had built and the Europeans destroyed Native settlements and some Native beliefs. In conclusion, the process of colonization brings forth exploration, destruction, and the spreading of different ideas and cultures.
