The Martian Chronicles- Ray Bradbury

In the science fiction novel The Martian Chronicles, Ray Bradbury details attempts by humans to colonize Mars that were similar to the Europeans trying to colonize the Americas. In both cases expeditions were sent out to explore the new land to detail experiences and difficulties while living on the new land. The expeditions to Mars and America encountered several obstacles which resulted in losses and setbacks. The Mars expeditions resulted in the Martians overwhelming and killing explorers similar to the Indians causing trouble for the early explorers in the Americas. Later on as the population increased on Mars and the Americas the natives were unable to fight back and succumbed to disease and better weaponry. The Martians suffered from chickenpox while the Indians suffered from a wide variety of European diseases. Finally as the expeditions gradually relaxed on the Mars traces of new traditions and cultures could be traced by the large cities and buildings built on Mars. This is similar to the Europeans colonizing the Americas because of the new religions and forms of living introduced to the Native Americans.
