The Martian Chronicles

Ray Bradbury’s book, The Martian Chronicles is about humans colonizing in Mars, taking over the Martian’s land by killing them off. It’s similar to America’s colonizing by gradually taking control, and starting their lives in Mars. Europeans did the same exact thing with America. The chapters were divided into a story that had a particular point, and the progression of the colonizing humans. A crew member Spender wants to preserve Mars and not let humans destroy their land and population. This is foreshadowing the actual destruction of Mars. There are many expeditions to travel to Mars. Many are unsuccessful, until all the Martians are dead. The humans recreate their Earth cities on Mars and they’re starting to start communities of people. Even though the Martians are dead, they shape shift into the wants of the humans so if they want to see their deceased loved ones they will be them. An atomic war breaks out, and the humans' only escape is to leave Mars but Earth is also destroyed too. Mars is now a ghost town with few survivors, they live on Mars alone. Robots are replacing and pretending to be humans, so as Captain Wilder comes on a rescue mission to Mars, he finds a family living and discovers they were robots. A smart house is still living, and controlling the house even though nobody lives there anymore, this shows the technology take over and dependence people have on technology. A new family settles on Mars again and they realize they can start a new colony, and they interact with humans. This book has a good message of not recreating a civilization but starting fresh and discovering new ways to adapt. People need to realize that they destroy other people's land and claim it as theirs, killing off the native people.
