The Martian Chronicles

The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury, is about the people of America colonizing Mars over many years and after many expeditions. Europeans colonizing America is the same as Americans colonizing Mars. Europeans launched many expeditions to America to see if the land was fit for living, just as the Americans did by sending rockets to Mars. Just as the Native Americans were pushed off of the land or killed by the Europeans, the Martians were killed by the Americans. There starts to be laws and codes set on the people in Mars which they don't like because they came to Mars (just as the Europeans into America) in order to get away from all the religious, political, or racial discrimination by their home land or to start anew. They make the towns and cities almost exactly like they were in America and living on Mars does not seem like an adventure any more. Mars got destroyed the minute they tried to colonize and not just adapt. A few people for example Spender and Captain Wilder, adapted to Mars and did not try to destroy what was already there. They understood that when you go to a different place and try to make it exactly like the old place, you destroy the uniqueness, which was the reason you went there in the first place.
