All Quiet on the Western Front

In All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque, a soldier named Paul Baumer goes to front lines with his classmates to fight in WWI. The tone of this novel is depressing and voilent. One of the major themes of this novel was that all men are the same and by the decision of a wealthy leader, they were turned against eachother. We saw this theme several times throughout the book but one example is when Paul saw the Russian captives at the training camp. They were starving and away from their families and Paul just saw himself in their eyes. The way that Remarque jumps from one idea to another enhances the story and really pulls the reader into the plot and makes you think about the story more.
