In Ray Bradbury's science fiction novel The Martian Chronicles, there are many connections to the early colonization of the Western Hemisphere. The beginning of the novel shows a little bit of the Martian culture which is centered around nature, an example of this being the house in the shape of a flower. This is quite similar to the Native American culture that also focused and revolved around nature. The colonization process of Mars is also quite similar to that of the American colonization. I both cases there were diseases brought by the invading peoples that killed off many of the natives. When both Mars and America were colonized, the Earth men/Europeans drove the Martians/Native Americans from their territories, killing off most of the natives. One of the main differences, however, was how in the colonization of the Americas the Invaders were exaulted as gods and in the Martian Colonization Captian Williams and the crew of the second expedition didn't even get the attention of the Martians. Instead they were sent to an insane assylum. Finally the overall colonization of both the Americas of the 1600's and Bradbury's Mars were filled with an air of superiority that the invaders had which lead to the downfall of the Native Civilization.
