In Nickel and Dimed Barbara Ehrenreich attempts to live life on minimum wage in our current economy. She has to deal numerous problems like finding a suitable place to live that she can afford and how she can get to and from work. She has to worry about how she will feed and sustain herself this partially leads to ending of her first job when she on the clock so Ehrenreich quits and goes to find a different job. Ehrenreich realizes that its so difficult to work all of these hours and support yourself, basically your whole life is busy by work or resting for work. She wants to help all of the poor people especially with there medical problems. Ehrenreich comes to the conclusion that our hardest working class should get paid more since they have the hardest work, discussed in the Evaluation chapter. Also in that chapter it discusses that its too hard for anyone to live off minimum wage and have a successful life. Employers try to keep wages as low as possilbe so they can try to make money.
Question 1.) No I have never been homeless, unemployed, without health insurance, or held down two jobs. The lowest paying job I have had is 7.25 an hour and the help i needed is that my mom still paid for part of my everyday needs like gas and food.
