The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction novel of short stories explaining the colonization of humans on Mars. There are many expeditions and contacts are made to the martians; however the fourth expedition was successful. There is tension between the humans and the martians. The Martians are portrayed as an intellectual race that have built an amazing civilization. Although when the humans arrive they bring their cities, their people, and all of their destruction with them. Which is why the Martian race was nearly wiped out, for there was a mass case of the chicken pox. This is all similar the colonization of America. Many civilizations and Native races were destroyed by the new colonies that arrived. Which is why the humans invade Mars to get away from the nuclear warfare and start anew. The difference between the colonization of America and the colonization of Mars is that everyone left Mars when the war occured. They left everything to be on Earth once again and the few that stayed came to appreciate the culture of Mars. The new people who decided to come to Mars as the war was still waging decided that Mars must be respected and not destroyed and they themselves became the people of Mars.
